IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack Review
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack takes us back to nearly 25 years ago to the incident in 1999 Christmas Eve when a flight from Kathmandu (Nepal) to Delhi with 179 people on board was hijacked by five terrorists. Sinha drew inspiration for the story from the book ‘Flight Into Fear’ by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury.
Anubhav Sinha takes us through the brutal reality of terrorists lurking around to take advantage of the situation, individuals and families whose lives can become tumultuous in no time, and the decision-making of governments and failure of intelligence.
Sinha shared that he thought he knew mostly everything about the hijack but by the time Srivastava finished writing, they realized they knew nothing. The director said there was so much behind the scenes, in the plane, in India, and various other countries – several thrillers running parallel.
