Weight-loss Drugs Slow Down Ageing, Reduces Risk Of Death: Research. Leading scientists believe weight-loss drugs will revolutionize healthcare by slowing down the aging process. Various research shows that weight-loss drugs will allow people to live longer in better health. Such drugs include Wegovy and Ozempic.

Professor Harlan Krumholz, from the Yale School of Medicine, said Ozempic has far-reaching benefits than what had initially been thought. He pointed out that the drug could be used to treat illnesses linked to heart failure, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and cancer. Krumholz said he wouldn’t be surprised if the drug slows down the aging process.

The cardiologist believes Ozempic and other ground-breaking medicines could revolutionize cardiovascular care and enhance cardiovascular health for good.

Moreover, there was a trial of 17,600 people aged 45 years and older (the participants were obese and had cardiovascular disease). They were given 2.4 mg of semaglutide (the main ingredient in Ozempic) or a placebo for more than three years.

Researchers established that those who took the drug died at a lower rate, cut levels of inflammation, and improved heart failure symptoms.

Maintain Diet and Exercise Over Drugs

An expert at Harvard Medical School Dr Benjamin Scirica said the reduction in non-cardiovascular death and infections death was surprising. He explained it was only detectable because of the COVID-19 related surge in non-cardiovascular deaths. Scirica said the findings highlight the fact that overweight and obesity increases the risk of death.

Studies state that the drug Ozempic mimics a naturally occurring hormone – giving a similar effect to bariatric surgery. It should be noted that semaglutide is approved for weight-loss and not ozempic.

Too much reliance or daily consumption of this drug will plateau weight, meaning that the person taking the drug will gain back the weight lost if they regularly consume the drug. Thus, doctors recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper diet and exercise.
