J&K will go into polls on September 18, 25, and October 1. Voting will be held in three phases, with counting of votes on October 8. J&K to hold its first assembly elections since 2014, major political parties are vying for dominance while regional politicians are busy mudslinging.
BJP and Congress leaders are going into the heartlands of Jammu and Kashmir in a bid to entice the people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the Doda district last week, he visited Kishtwar. The Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi also made his way to Srinagar, where he met the locals and enjoyed the local delicacies, and met with the regional party National Conference’s chief Omar Abdullah. The NC and Congress have partnered for a pre-poll alliance to take on the BJP.
The BJP is hyping the abrogation of Article 370, doing away with J&K’s special status and statehood to free it up from the hands of militancy and cross-border miscreants. Both major parties have promised to restore statehood and strengthen the bond between Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP’s Amit Shah Pushes Back Congress In J&K
The Home Minister Amit Shah at a rally in Kishtwar rebuked the Opposition party Congress for wanting to push the region back into terrorism. The BJP leader claimed that if the Congress and its allies, who are soft on militancy, come to power they will release terrorists and stone pelters from jails.
Shah highlighted that no one will dare to spread terrorism on India’s soil if the Modi government comes to power in the region. He said the BJP will uproot terrorism, never for it to rise again.
Mehbooba Mufti, the former chief minister of J&K and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, criticized the ruling party. She said it’s a shame that the BJP has been saying that the situation has improved in the region, but failed to hold elections in J&K in the last 10 years. Mufti said Kashmiris want a government that can address their concerns and end their difficulties.
