With Israel taking its war into Lebanon, European countries are trying to end the Russia-Ukraine war from becoming a Western nightmare. Czech Republic President Petr Pavel says Ukraine has to be realistic about the ongoing war with Russia. He believes Kyiv should accept temporary Russian control over some territories.
Pavel supports Ukraine in the war against Russia but says that neither side seems able to reach their maximalist goals. He explained that to talk about a defeat of Ukraine or defeat of Russia, won’t simply happen. The Czech President said the end will be somewhere in between.
Speaking realistically, Pavel said the most probable outcome would be that a part of Ukrainian territory would be under Russian occupation ‘temporarily’, which could go on for years.
It should be noted that Zelensky’s government has ruled out any peace that does not restore Ukraine’s 1991 borders which include Crimea, Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk People’s Republics, and Zaporozhye.
Germany Not With Ukraine Using its Weapons in Russia
Germany has opposed Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons within Russian territory. This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his calls for a free hand in using donated long-range missiles at Russian targets. But the US hasn’t reversed its policy to allow Ukraine to use America-made long-range weapons deep within Russia.
Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, told Zelensky that he does not support the lifting of restrictions on Kyiv’s use of German-donated weapons within Russian territory. He reasoned that allowing the use of the weapons is not in line with his position.
Ukraine Disheartened With the West
Ukrainian soldiers are disheartened by the West’s stance in the ongoing war with Russia. They believe the United States does not want Ukraine to defeat Russia. One soldier said Ukraine will not lose, but then it will not be able to win for a long time.

He said it seems beneficial for the US to exhaust and weaken Russia for several years rather than give Ukraine what it needs to win the war. However, the soldier highlighted that this could continue for years as, neither the Kremlin nor Ukraine would have the means to achieve a significant breakthrough in the battlefield.
The Ukrainian army wants to hit Russia’s rear to deplete the enemy’s logistics.
