Syrian National With Explosive Belt Shot By Lebanese Soldiers, Tried To Bomb US Embassy In Beirut. A disaster was averted by the Lebanese army when its forces shot dead a Syrian national wearing an explosive belt at the US Embassy in Lebanon. One gunman was caught and two managed to escape. The area was cordoned off by the Lebanese army after the attack.
In a statement, the Lebanese army said the US Embassy in Lebanon, located in the Awkar area, came under gunfire from a Syrian national. It stated that army personnel, deployed in the area, responded wounding the gunman. The shooter was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
A Lebanese security official told the media that there were four assailants. Three had opened fire, while one had driven them to the site. While the motive isn’t clear, Lebanese media reports highlight the gunman was wearing a black vest with the words ‘Islamic State’ written in Arabic, including the English initials ‘ISIS’.

1983 US Embassy Bombing in Beirut
The US Embassy in Beirut witnessed a deadly onslaught, a bomb attack in 1983, which killed 63 people. Hezbollah was blamed for the attack. In 2023, American Ambassador Shea laid a wreath at the US Embassy memorial to mark the 40th anniversary of the deadly attack.
Shea, in a speech, said those who decided to violently murder 63 innocent people and the Embassy family, underestimated them. She asserted that the attackers failed to understand the bonds they share are strong. The ambassador added that their bond is stronger than the steel and cement of any building and that the US can withstand its enemies and preserve the darkest times together.
Israel Fully Prepared to Take on Lebanon
US ally Israel, which is already embroiled in a war against Hamas in Gaza, says it’s prepared for very intense action in the north. Lebanon-based Hezbollah has been attacking Israel since October 7. Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, Israeli military chief, said Israeli troops were prepared to move to an offensive in the north.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israeli national security minister, pointed out that there can’t be peace in Lebanon while they are destroying Israel. He said the IDF needs to burn all Hezbollah strongholds and destroy them – WAR.
