Can Animal Movie Be Termed As A Misogynistic Movie? Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal is a hot topic among netizens due to its theme and portrayal of women. People even call it a misogynistic and violent film they have ever seen in Bollywood. Is Animal a Misogynistic Movie? Or a Faux Created By Internet Issuers?
Before talking about whether it’s a misogynistic movie or not, it’s better to talk about the good and the bad aspects of the movie.
The film follows Ranvijay Singh (Ranbir Kapoor), who is obsessed with his dad Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), and wants constant attention from Him. Aside from being obsessed with his dad, Vijay is very protective of his family members and can’t let anyone hurt them.
Due to his irrational behavior, he had to leave his family and go to the US. His life in the US was very good until he heard the news about his Dad being shot. Things change after Vijay returns to India and starts finding the man who wants his father dead.

The Good Aspects of Sandeep Reddy’s ‘Animal’
First Half
The first half of Animal is perfect as it follows nonlinear storytelling. Most drama movies follow a simple structure from start to end, making it boring. In the first half, they constantly show the past and Present which doesn’t make it boring. The screenplay of the first half is so tight that 1 hour and 45 minutes felt short.
Cast Performance
Ranbir Kapoor did his career-best performance. He always had this chocolate boy image, but in Animal he challenged himself. He doesn’t even need to shout loud to show his rage, he did it with his eyes. Aside from Ranbir, everyone in the film did a fantastic job.
Songs and Background Score
Harshwardhan Rameshwar’s background score elevates the scene. Talking about the songs, I heard some songs of Animal on YouTube. I didn’t like those songs. But after watching the movie I’m constantly listening to them.
Action scenes and Violence
Action scenes could have been better. I think Animal is one of the most violent films by Indian standards. Most Indian directors and producers don’t show Violence properly, as they want a U/A certificate. In the film, Ranbir’s character cuts a throat, and they are showing it properly. I hope more Indian filmmakers make action films like Animal without any fallback, and show us blood.
The Controversial & Disturbing Aspects of Animal Movie
Second Half Could Have Been Better
The second half could have been better. The second half focuses on the relationship between Vijay and his wife Geetanjali. Which doesn’t make any sense, they could have cut those scenes and focused on the antagonist story.
Movie Length
A lot of unnecessary scenes in the film should have been removed from the film as it doesn’t have any importance.
Character Waste
Bobby Deol’s character didn’t get enough screen time, you can say that Bobby made an extended cameo appearance in the film. He had literally 10 to 15 screen time.

Badly Choreographed Action
Action scenes were poorly choreographed, when today’s filmmakers were focusing on long-shot action scenes, it was very unlikely to see first-cut action scenes. They could have shown some action scenes in a better way like the hallway fight and machine gun sequence.
Can Animal be termed as a misogynistic movie?
Yes, Animal can be termed as a misogynistic movie. In the starting, Ranbir’s character Vijay passes a very objectifying comment on Geetanjali (Rashmika) about her Pelvis. In the second half, Vijay tells his henchmen to control their wives otherwise the females would control them which was utterly sexist. In another scene, Vijay asks Zoya (Tripti Dimri) to lick his boot if she loves him.
These misogynist scenes should have been cut from the movie as they weren’t important. Ranbir’s character Vijay is flawed but not a misogynist, there is also a scene in the film about it. Those scenes felt out of place and not needed for the story.
I’m very sure Sandeep put those scenes knowingly that the movie will create a lot of noise due to its misogynistic dialogues and scenes. Hope Sandeep tries different stuff in his upcoming films then poking a section of the audience or critics.
At last, Animal is a movie and people should take it as a movie. It’s very unlikely the movie will inspire people, but it might inspire people who think of themselves as Alpha Male or Sigma. Most young generations spend their time online and mainly on Instagram, which changes people’s minds very fast.
