Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical, the English-language musical adaptation of the Bollywood blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge will premiere at the Manchester Opera House on May 29. The East-meets-West musical comedy has been scripted by Nell Benjamin, who is the co-writer of Legally Blonde (2001) and Mean Girls (2004).

Based on Aditya Chopra’s record-breaking Bollywood romantic drama, Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical is where cultures collide. West End meets Bollywood in this joyous, globe-trotting new romcom stars Jena Pandya of Mamma Mia! and Bhangra Nation fame and Ashley Day who starred in Netflix’s Dynasty and An American in Paris.

If you are wondering about the story, well, there’s a twist, but it doesn’t stray away from the original Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. According to the portal, Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical is about a young British woman whose future is all set with an arranged marriage back in India, as she sets off around Europe for one last summer of freedom. She gets stranded with Roger, a laid-back, party-loving, and they find themselves falling in love!’

Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical whisks the audience from Paris and Rome to the stunning yellow mustard fields of Punjab. This dizzying, colorful new journey will make you fall in love with 18 new English songs written for the stage. Bollywood’s popular music composers Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravijani have created the foot-tapping score.

Lead actress Jena Pandya expressed thrill to play Simran in Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical. “It’s amazing to be part of telling a story that means so much to so many people.” Pandya highlighted that the original film has become a part of the cultural fabric of India.

Actor Ashley Day described Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical as a true romantic comedy. He said the script is incredibly funny and full of heart. “What I love most is how it shows two cultures, each staying true to their roots while embracing something bigger than themselves,” Day added that the musical has an unbelievable mix of musical theatre and Punjabi pop-something he has never seen done on stage.
