Kangana Ranaut Brushes Off Rumors About Censor Certificate For ‘Emergency’ Amid Threats. Emergency, a Kangana Ranaut film about the 1984 Operation Blue Star, set for release next week is facing issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has hit several roadblocks and been politicized.

The Shiromani Akali Dal has sent a legal notice to CBFC in an attempt to stop the film’s release. There are concerns that Emergency would harm the social cohesion of Punjab and the broader national community.

Ranaut, who plays Indira Gandhi in the film, brushed off rumors that the film has got a censor certificate. The actress took to microblogging platform X to clear the rumors saying that Emergency has been cleared but its certification has been stopped due to threats.

She said the CBFC is under pressure to censor some parts of the film, particularly scenes highlighting the former prime minister’s assassination and the Punjab riots.

Ranaut, who is also a member of parliament from Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), highlighted that if these scenes were removed, the zest of the film would be gone.

Ban Kangana Ranaut Emergency

Congress leader Udit Raj said the CBFC should watch the film and pass it responsibly. He said the Akali Dal wants a ban on Emergency. Raj highlighted that it is the group’s stand and they might have some information about what is to come if the film is released. “If they have inputs that screening of the film can adversely affect the situation, they should share it with us too,” he said.

The politician hopes that the CBFC doesn’t pass a film that has potential to cause rift in the society. However, Raj also touched on freedom of speech. If said if people get agitated over the term ‘Emergency’, then it’s not true democracy. Besides Kangana Ranaut, other stars in the films are Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade.
