After making waves in the US, UK, and France with their debut production Girls Will Be Girls, Bollywood couple Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal are excited about its premiere at the upcoming MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
Directed by Shuchi Talati, Girls Will Be Girls has won accolades at film festivals around the world, including the Audience Award in the World Dramatic Entry category and the Special Jury Award at the renowned Sundance Film Festival.
Girls Will Be Girls, a romance-comedy, stars Kani Kusruti, Preeti Panigrahi, Kajol Chugh, Kesav Binoy Kiron, Jitin Gulati, and Devaki Shahani, among others.
Richa Chadha expressed her excitement about the film’s anticipated Indian premiere. She said it was a dream come true. “After all the love and recognition we’ve received internationally, it feels incredibly special to bring the film home where it all began,” the Fukrey actress said.
Chadha highlighted that they knew they wanted to tell a story that was honest, raw, and unapologetically real.
Ali Fazal said they have been overwhelmed by the response Girls Will Be Girls has received internationally. He believes nothing compares to showcasing the film in India, at MAMI. Fazal said the film festival is a celebration of Indian cinema. “To be part of that is both humbling and thrilling.”

Shuchi Talati, the director, said Girls Will Be Girls is based on the themes of identity, womanhood, and empowerment. It’s a bold, coming-of-age story that is set against the backdrop of societal expectations and personal desires. The film explores the complexities of womanhood in a nuanced and powerful way.
Girls Will Be Girls is a slow and deliberate narrative that reflects the emotional currents of Mira’s life. Mira is played by Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron is Sri.
