Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee to India after the army gave her an ultimatum to step down and make way for the interim government. Hasina had been the prime minister of Bangladesh for the last 15 years. The army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman says Hasina resigned and fled the capital city of Dhaka by helicopter.
This development comes after weeks of protests. The people of Bangladesh are celebrating, with protesters feeling proud that their movement has brought a much-needed change to the country. Tens of thousands of student protesters are celebrating the prime minister’s resignation as a new era for the country.
Sheikh Hasina Flees To India After Army Gives Her 45 Minutes
According to the news agency AFP, Hasina flew out in a military aircraft and is headed for an ‘unspecified space space’. Its believed that she intends to go to the United Kingdom, with a stopover in Delhi. Bangladeshi reports say the army stepped in to bring the crisis to an end and find the best solution for the country.

Rumeen Farhana, a former Bangladesh MP, said the recent development is a victory for the people of Bangladesh. She said Hasina stepping down is like the country has been liberated for the second time.
The politician said the people wanted the prime minister to step down, and call for proper elections. Rumeen hopes the army through the interim government will call for fresh elections in which every political party in Bangladesh can participate and steer the country toward democracy.
