With the US Presidential Election 2024 approaching, the Secret Service is working round the clock to ensure former US President Donald Trump’s safety. The businessman-turned-politician’s life seems to be in imminent danger after two assassination attempts against him.
And there may have been a third if the law enforcement officers caught him in time. On Saturday evening, a man identified as Vem Miller was arrested near a Trump rally in Coachella, California. He was carrying a loaded firearm and in possession of a large-capacity magazine of the type that is illegal in California.
This comes after the second assassination attempt on Trump in September at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. The first was in July at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when a gunman struck the Republican in the ear.
Chad Bianco, Riverside County Sheriff, told the media that a 49-year-old suspect was stopped at a checkpoint to enter the inside perimeter of security protecting the venue. He highlighted that they found two unregistered firearms – a shotgun and a loaded handgun, as well as multiple boxes of ammunition.

Moreover, Miller was found to possess multiple driver’s licenses and passports with different names. However, he was charged with firearms offenses and released on $5,000 bail. A Secret Service official said the former US president was not at the venue when Miller was stopped. The agency said their agents conducted a productive intelligence interview and there was no impact on the event.
Authorities, including the Secret Service and the FBI, have boosted Trump’s security and have thanked the local partners for ensuring the former president’s safety.
