India-China relations are important for the people of both countries and for regional and global peace and stability, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He met the Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit 2024, currently underway in Kazan, Russia.
This comes just days after India-China reached an accord on tense border issues through diplomatic and military channels. Modi and Xi Jinping spoke positively about the significant progress on border talks made through intensive communication. Both leaders want to improve and develop bilateral relations.
Despite their heated military and diplomatic tensions, India and China have maintained strong trade ties. And now stabilized bilateral ties will boost Chinese investment in India.

Narendra Modi Calls for India-China Peace and Mutual Trust
Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the Chinese president that peace, stability, mutual trust, and respect were crucial for relations. He said India-China welcomed the agreement on the issues that arose over the last four years.
Modi highlighted that it should be both country’s priority to maintain peace and tranquility on the border. “Mutual trust, mutual respect, and mutual sensitivity should be the basis of our relationship.” He added that New Delhi is willing to enhance strategic communication with Beijing, strengthen strategic mutual trust, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
Xi Jinping said India-China stands at a crucial phase of its respective modernization endeavors. He urged both countries to shoulder their international responsibility, set an example in boosting the strength and unity of developing countries, and contribute towards a multipolar world and greater democracy in international relations.
The Chinese president added that China and India are each other’s development opportunities, and not a threat, and cooperation partner rather than competitor.
