About 10 militants were killed in an encounter in Jiribam district of Manipur prompting curfew and a complete shutdown in hill areas as a protest. Police in the area highlighted concerns about widespread disturbance and danger to human lives because of unlawful activities by anti-social elements.
There was an armed confrontation after the CRPF, deployed at the Borobekra Police Station, tracked down the Kuki militants. There was an heavy exchange of gunfire. The CRPF seized RPGs and other weapons – Aks, our SLRs, two INSAS, Pump Action Gun, BP Helmets and magazines.

Reports state that Kuki militants created havoc in the peripheral areas on Monday evening after the CPRF neutralized 11 militants. They burned down fabricated houses, which housed police and security forces, at Porompat Ching of Phayeng. The militants also fired rockets from Kharam Vaiphei and Nakhujang into several areas at Phumlou and Lairensajik.
The villagers fled with their lives but two village volunteers suffered injuries in a bomb attack and were taken to the hospital. The Kuki-Zo Council declared a complete shutdown in the area claiming their village volunteers were dead. It called for a thorough investigation to flush out the perpetrators.
The Manipur Police said security forces conducted search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts. Moreover, surveillance and security measures have been heightened in sensitive stretches. Checkpoints have also been set up to keep security measures for the people.
