New Delhi is preparing to host Vladimir Putin after Russia’s President accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation. Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov confirmed this at a conference titled ‘Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda’, which was hosted by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).
He said President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit from the Indian head of government. The Russian Foreign Minister said PM Modi had paid his first foreign visit to Moscow upon his re-election in 2024. Lavrov highlighted that it’s now Russia’s turn.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who was also present at the conference, said New Delhi’s diplomatic engagement continues to be marked by frequent high-level exchanges, robust institutional mechanisms and a commitment to each other’s core interests.

Russia – India Boosting Relations, Bilateral Trade

Jaishankar said India and Russia have demonstrated, through every shift and realignment, an exceptional ability to adapt and find new opportunities for mutual benefit and for contributing to regional and global stability, and prosperity. He highlighted emerging areas of collaboration such as trade, technology, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, connectivity, and the digital economy as ‘new points of collaboration’.
The EAM reiterated India’s ambitious goal of boosting bilateral trade. “India and Russia have set a target of increasing bilateral trade to USD 100 billion by 2030. Jaishankar added that the bond between the two nations was based on the deep historical roots and a long tradition of trust and mutual respect that continues to expand and deepen in the backdrop of a dynamic world order.
