Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal handed over his resignation to Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena at the Raj Niwas this evening. He gave the reins of Delhi Chief Ministership to fellow party leader and minister Atishi.
Kejriwal said the honor is on the people of Delhi to decide whether he is imandaar (honest) or gunahgaar (guilty). The former Delhi chief minister reiterated that he would only return to office after the people have established him innocent through votes in the upcoming Delhi assembly election. He said a win would serve as a certificate of his integrity.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia alleged that the central government is hatching a political conspiracy against the AAP and its leaders, particularly Arvind Kejriwal. He highlighted that several AAP leaders have been sent to jail over the past couple of months, their image tarnished.
Atishi Thanks Arvind Kejriwal
The newly appointed chief minister of Delhi Atishi thanked Kejriwal for nominating her for the top position. She said this is only possible in AAP and under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal a first-time politician has climbed the ranks of a chief minister.
Atishi, 43, said as long as she has the responsibility, she will protect the people of Delhi and run the government under the guidance of Kejriwal. She called on the people of Delhi to vote for Kejriwal and help him win the upcoming assembly election.
Fellow party leader and Rajya Sabha MLA Swati Maliwal said Atishi is a ‘dummy CM’. She highlighted that Atishi’s family had tried to save Afzal Guru from being hanged.
