Aam Aadmi Party senior leaders have proposed Atishi as Delhi Chief Minister and she has also been elected as leader of Delhi AAP Legislative Party. She holds various portfolios in the Delhi government, including Finance, Education, Revenue and Law.

Last month, Atishi was nominated to hoist the Tricolor on Independence Day but was rejected, and Kailash Gahlot was given the go-ahead by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor. A source said she will be a great CM as she has a good rapport with officials and knows how to get the work done.

Names of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Sunita Kejriwal had also been floated for the top position. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj told the media that he has no idea who would be the chief minister, someone from the council of ministers or from among the MLAs. He said Sunita Kejriwal is out of the picture as she is not interested.

Arvind Kejriwal, 54, announced that he will not continue as the CM unless the people of Delhi support him and vote for him. He said AAP will choose the CM and the government will function accordingly under the new CM.
