Hindu outfits in Maharashtra are demanding the removal of the sixth Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, which is located in the city of Khuldabad, Chatrapathi Sambhaji Nagar. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena have staged a protest calling for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. This mausoleum was established in 1707 in the southeastern corner of the complex of Sheikh Zainuddin Dargah.
Nitin Mahajan, a Bajrang Dal member, said Aurangzeb’s grave was being worshipped in Sambhaji Nagar. He highlighted that when such graves are being worshipped, society also develops in that manner. “At that time, we were helpless, but now VHP and Bajrang Dal are demanding that it should be removed.”
Sanjay Nirupam, Shiv Sena leader, also called for Aurangzeb’s tomb to be removed. He pointed out that the country is witnessing debates about the Mughal emperor’s deeds. Nirupam believes that the demand for the tomb’s removal is not unreasonable. He added that the grave has no meaning in Maharashtra, especially in Chatrapathi Sambhaji Nagar. “We expect the Maharashtra government to take a step in this direction as soon as possible.”

Bajrang Dal Warns of Babri-like Destruction Aurangzeb Tomb

Bajrang Dal leader Nitin Mahajan warned of chaos. “We know what happens when the Hindu community carries out an agitation concerning its existence. We saw what happened in Ayodhya to remove the Babri structure,” he said. “If the government does not remove the grave, then we will do Karseva and do so ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Congress has accused VHP and Bajrang Dal of not wanting to let the people of Maharashtra live in peace. Vijay Wadettiwar said these groups want to slow the development pace of the state. “Aurangzeb was here for 27 years, and he was not able to do anything to the state, now what will they get after the removal of his grave.”
Aurangzeb’s topic came to light when Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi said last month that the Mughal emperor was a good administrator but was wrongly portrayed in history.
