The monsoon season gives us much-needed respite from the scorching summer heat and prompts a change in our diets too. We prefer to have more hot dishes like soups, pies and pakoras in rainy weather compared to ice creams, cold salads and, juices in summer.
There are some mouth-watering delicacies that we should try and of course, our grandma’s recipes like khichdi or kadhi and chili pakoras…yum. It sends us on that nostalgia lane where we go about exploring our town dhabas and cafes for that recipe.
But then you have to be mindful of your tummy health as well. To enjoy the monsoon to the fullest, good health is utmost, and one can have good health by drinking up to eight glasses of water daily, including fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet, and minimizing processed foods.

Fried Makhana
This makes a wholesome snack. Makhana, also called foxnuts, are rich in protein, fiber and has all the essential nutrients that we need. It aids in digestion and makes us fill fuller for a longer time. Like popcorn, fried makhana with ghee is an excellent snack. It hits our taste buds just right!
Fire Roasted Corn
Corn roasted an open fire with a dash of salt, black pepper and, a squeeze of lemon or butter is just yummy or you can just garnish it with whatever spices you like.
Besides roasted corn, steamed corn and butter is also a must-try with mashed potatoes and sausages on the side. It makes an excellent and healthy breakfast or a snack.
Samosa and Masala Chai
We are Indians nothing completes us more than samosa and masala chai. To make it healthy, bake samosa with the filling of your choice (peas and potatoes, or peas and paneer, or minced chicken meat with peas, or soya chunks) in the oven. You can also prepare it in the air fryer. It’s best to avoid too many oily snacks.
You can make green chutney by blending coriander leaves, garlic, salt, green chilies and tomatoes. Or if you are adventurous, try samosa with mayonnaise as your dip! Have your hot beverage as ginger tea or masala chai. It goes well with the samosa!
Momos
Momos are also a great snack. Steamed momos or dumplings are stuffed with cabbage, paneer, chicken or minced meat. It is great to enjoy with hot soup or with hot sauce. In rainy seasons, momos are best enjoyed with schezwan or hot garlic sauce. Some even prefer fried momos.

Kachoris
Kachoris are stuffed, spicy Indian pastry. For stuffing, some prefer various spices or lentils and enjoy with potato curry on the side. This is a lip-smacking dish that warms you up from inside. During monsoon, Kachoris make an excellent breakfast.
